Recognizing that tomorrow’s history is being made today, the Beaches Museum invites you to its Beach Legends Gala, Friday, November 5 at the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse to honor our 2021 Beach Legends.
During this past extraordinary year, our community has learned to appreciate many everyday heroes… medical staff, first responders and essential workers. But there are people all around us who have kept the fires of our beach community burning, reminding us that we belong to something big and important. These quiet heroes found creative ways to keep our traditions alive, comfort us with faith, support us with services and soothe our spirits with music. This year, we honor them as our community’s Beach Legends who continue to write the history today that we will remember for many tomorrows.
The Beach Legends for 2021 are Kurtis Loftus, Thomas Bary Jr., Susan King and Mike Shackelford.

Your group of twelve will be treated to a feast straight out of old Palm Valley at the Oesterreicher-McCormick Cabin in the Museum’s History Park. Dine on recipes handed down through the family from the days of Thomas & Dorothea Oesterreicher and enjoy beer, wine and if you are lucky, some moonshine! Favorites including boiled peanuts, Jackie McCormick’s datil pepper jelly with cream cheese, JT McCormick’s shrimp perlau, Minorcan style pork, fried cabbage, cornbread and more! Desserts in the family tradition will be served to complete your down-home dining experience. Your chefs and hosts are the Oesterreicher and McCormick family members and some items will come straight out of the Heritage Garden, tended to by the Master Gardeners. Book Club in the Cabin
Your group of up to 10 will all receive a copy of Michel Oesterreicher’s Pioneer Family, a great read based on the recollections of a family of Northeast Florida frontier pioneers. The cabin, now located at the Beaches Museum, is central to the tales of survival, resourcefulness and most of all, family. Your group will come together to enjoy refreshments and discuss the book with the author herself inside the cabin!

Details: 6 days and 6 nights luxury accommodation for 2 people at the Hemingway-style tents, Heritage Safari or Zulu Nyala Lodge. These luxury facilities are situated in the heart of Zululand and St. Lucia/Sodwana Bay Marine reserve/Lubombo corridor—one of the richest wildlife conservation regions in Africa.
This package includes full board which is three delicious meals per day, prepared by the finest international chefs—with an African flavor of course.
