Archaeology Day

October 15, 2022 - 10:00 am -2:00 pm

The Archaeological Institute of America–Jacksonville Society will celebrate International Archaeology Day on Oct. 15 at  Beaches Museum, with an archaeology fair from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Archaeology Day is a fun-filled, educational day when children and adults can participate in mock digs, pottery and rope making, talk to experts like Dr. Keith Ashley about local artifacts, and more!

At noon in the historic chapel, Dr. John Walker, a professor at the University of Central Florida, will present a lecture titled “How the Amazon Was Built.” He will show how the history of the Amazon has been a human history for thousands of years by looking at the spectacular ceramics of the Marajo Island culture, the circular geoglyphs of the southern Amazon, and the raised fields of the Llanos de Mojos in eastern Bolivia.

Be sure to join us for this special day highlighting the field of archaeology. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Melva Price at (904)241-9411 or aiajaxsoc@gmail.com.
